Obituary for William "Bill" Peters

William "Bill" Peters
William “Bill” Henry Peters
Age 77, of Venice Florida and formerly Watkins Glen, NY, passed away December 15, 2017. He was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on August 22, 1940 to Eleanor L. Peters (née Fuller) and Wesley C. Peters.

He is survived by his loving wife Lucina Carol of Venice, FL; daughter Susan L. Peters and her son Michael Henrikson of Seminole, FL; daughter Ann C. Harrison and her husband Glenn of East Falmouth, MA; son Todd W. Peters and his wife Lisa, daughter Kalle, and son Wesley of Louisville, CO; sister Diantha L. Langmaid and her husband Dwayne of Danville, VT; brother Robert C. Peters and his wife Sonia of Granby, VT; and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws.

Bill graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1958 and pursued collegiate studies at Lyndon Teachers College (Lyndon State College), Rutgers University and the University of Rochester. He earned a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter professional designation and was a chapter member in Syracuse, NY.

In 1970, Bill moved to Watkins Glen, NY with his family, where he purchased the E.C. Cooper, Inc. insurance agency. Bill was an active member of his community, serving on several boards of directors including the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Corporation, and many proud years with the Schuyler Hospital where he served time as Chairman. He was a devoted member of the Watkins-Montour Rotary Club, serving time as president and earning peer recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow. Bill was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen and served on the Regional Economic Development Committee. In 1995, he was nominated Business Person of the Year by the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce and in 2013 was inducted into the Schuyler County Hall of Fame.

He was an avid Syracuse basketball fan and lifelong outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed sharing in golfing, hunting, fishing and boating activities with his close friends and family. Bill’s leadership, love for his community and warm sense of humor touched many throughout his life.

There are no memorial services planned at this time. Remembrances in his name may be made to Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas County, FL. You may express condolences to the family or “Light a Candle of Remembrance” online in “Obituaries” at www.RoyceChedzoy.com
