Obituary for Mildred "Milli" Cleveland

Mildred "Milli" Cleveland
Mildred “Milli” Cleveland
Age 88, of Horseheads, passed away on July 7, 2017.
Friends are invited to call at the Royce-Chedzoy Royce Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Tuesday (July 11th) from 2pm-4pm; followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 4:00pm. Burial will be held at Montour Cemetery on Wednesday at 11:00am.
Milli was predeceased by her husbands, E. Herbert Liss of Buffalo and Virgil L. Cleveland of Beaver Dams. Survivors include her children, Carl (Joanne) Cleveland of Highlands Ranch, CO; Donna (Dennis) Weigel of Beaver Dam, WI; and Dale (Jeanette) Cleveland of Elmira, NY. Additionally, she is survived by grandchildren, Brian Cleveland of Arlington, VA, Kevin Cleveland of Sacramento, CA, Chris Edwards and his son Carsen of Beaver Dam, WI, DeAnna (Daniel) Willcox and their son Oliver of Moline, Il, Thomas Cleveland of Beaver Dams, NY, and Nick Cleveland and Matthew Cleveland, both of Elmira, NY.
Milli, the last survivor of eight siblings, was born May 8, 1929 to Myrtle (Butters) Thurston and William Henry Thurston who lived in Horseheads. Family was always very important to this loving mother as was helping others. For many 19 years, her passion included leading the Busy Bee 4H groups in a variety of fun and educational experiences, including sewing, woodworking, crafts, games, youth fairs and NY State Fair activities. She was a member of the Moreland Presbyterian Church and a recognized business leader in Watkins Glen, running Cleveland Appliances with husband Virgil for 29 years.
After Virgil’s death in June 1999, Milli met and later married E. Herbert Liss, a patent attorney from Buffalo, NY. They lived there happily until his death in November 2013. In 2014, she moved to Appleridge Senior Living in Horseheads where she enjoyed the activities and company of the other residents.
She will be missed by many. We were all blessed to have her in our lives. You may sign a guestbook, light a “Candle of Remembrance” or express condolences to the family online at RoyceChedzoy.com.
