Age 74, of Beckhorn Rd., Hector, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 5, 2016. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Hector Presbyterian Church on Saturday (Sept 10th) from 1pm-3pm; followed by a funeral service at the church at 3:00pm. A Fireman’s Memorial Service and a reception will be held at the V-L-H Fire Station following the burial. He is survived by his wife Roberta; five children, Alan (Jurate) Lent of Lithuania, Lindette (John) Gardner of Washington, Lori (Cody) Landenburger of Alaska; Jonathan (Amy) Beckhorn of Hector; Bethanne Beckhorn (George Hade) of Trumansburg; foster daughter, Kirsten Pierce of Burdett; six grandchildren, Naomi and Roberta Lent, Christopher and Robin Baas, Brian Landenburger, and Megan Beckhorn; brother, Peter (Rosemary) Beckhorn of Rochester, Linda (Jim) Scott of Rochester, and Marge (Carl) Stenquist of Hector; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bulkley of Bath. David was born in Elmira, NY, the eldest son of Waldo and Neva Beckhorn. David was a graduate of Watkins Glen Central School in 1960 and later Cornell University Class of 1964. He was a lifelong resident of Hector; and a lifelong member of the Hector Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a 50-plus year member of the V-L-H Fire Company; serving in many positions, including Fire Chief and President. He was a grape grower with his father on the family farm for many years. He later worked at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva for 25 years, until he retired. He continued to work on the family farm after his retirement. He was a founder and vice-president of the Backbone Ridge History Group and the Cemetery Restoration Project Chairman. David supported the growth of wineries in the Finger Lakes and always supported every aspect of vineyard growth.
