The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm-7pm at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday, July 21, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm at the funeral home. A committal service with military honors will be held Friday at 2:00pm at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira. He was predeceased by his daughter, Heather Yuhasz; brothers, John Jr. and Andrew Yuhasz; and sister, Anna Wasley. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Allison (Jake) Kolar; Kristie (Michael) Herrick, Michael Yuhasz, Jennifer Padilla, Jeffrey Yuhasz, and Heidi Yuhasz; brother-in-law Ronald (Taryn) Bath, sister-in-law, Angie Yuhasz; 10 grandchildren, Jamie, Cyrus, Ashley, Tristan, Emma, Sophia, Teleri, Mihail, Jude, and Soren; great-grandson, Hunter; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Aliquippa, PA, the son of John and Mary Yuhasz. He honorably served in the United States Army, where he played football, and was drafted for the Colts, but suffered a knee injury in a pre-season game that ended his football career. After serving in the Army, he worked in the Steel Mills in Pennsylvania and enrolled at Mansfield University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Education while also coaching football. He taught and coached football at Athens Central School. Later, he taught and was a supportive teacher at Hendy Avenue School in Elmira, and earned his Master’s in Education and Administrative Degree at Elmira College. He moved to Watkins Glen with his family in 1971 when he accepted the position of Watkins Glen Elementary School Principal where he taught until his retirement in 1996. In 2002, he was named interim principal. He also coached football for Watkins Glen High School. He served as a Schuyler County Legislator from 2002-2014. He was a Rotarian (Paul Harris Fellow recipient) and a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, VFW and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing, helping at the Race Track, and his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers! He was also proud of his Czech Heritage, always had a smile, loved his family, and would always have a joke to brighten your day. Donations in his memory may be made to Schuyler County Catholic Charities, 607 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
